Navigating Tariffs, Trade Pressures, and the Path Forward for Alberta Manufacturers

Presented by Brittany Scarrow, BSc, PMP, MBA,  VP, Prairie Operations and Member Services of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters

In this session, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters will deliver an Alberta-focused analysis of how steel and aluminum tariffs, U.S. trade pressures, and shifting CUSMA dynamics are directly impacting fabricators’ input costs, project margins, and cross-border competitiveness. The discussion will examine how retaliatory tariffs are disrupting supply chains and squeezing the cost structures that fabricators depend on — and what policy changes CME is advancing to protect Alberta’s industrial base.

But this session goes beyond the problem. Attendees will learn how CME is actively helping fabricators respond — from supporting manufacturers in developing the capacity to meet evolving supply chain and procurement requirements, to identifying opportunities in domestic defense and infrastructure markets as U.S. export channels face growing uncertainty. CME’s assessments and roadmaps help fabricators identify where they are most vulnerable and where the greatest opportunities for competitiveness gains exist — in lean operations, supply chain risk management, quality systems, and workforce capability.

Whether you are managing rising input costs, rethinking your customer mix, or looking to qualify for new markets and contracts, CME has the tools, advocacy, and industry network to support you.

Attendees will leave with a clear picture of the trade risks ahead and the practical supports available to help Alberta fabricators adapt, compete, and grow.
